La piétonnisation de l’avenue du Mont-Royal a été initiée en 2020 en réponse à diverses contraintes liées à la crise sanitaire. Pendant tout l’été, des études ont été menées et ont révélé que non seulement l’opération de piétonnisation avait été un franc succès, mais qu’elle avait créé un précédent inspirant d’autres artères commerciales à emboîter le pas.

Forte des observations obtenues par l’expérimentation de nouveaux concepts d’aménagements développés durant ce moment charnière, l'Avenue du Mont-Royal reconduira l’initiative à l’été 2021. Pour cette prochaine édition, de nouveaux aménagements temporaires, des installations artistiques ainsi que des initiatives en verdissement seront déployés sous la forme d’un geste affirmé, témoignant des apprentissages et du savoir-faire des professionnels de l’aménagement qui ont développé et adapté leur pratique à cette nouvelle réalité.

La Société de développement commerciale de l’avenue du Mont-Royal et Odace Événements lancent un appel de projets s’adressant aux professionnels de toutes les disciplines du design (la composition d’équipes multidisciplinaires est encouragée) afin de développer les différents tableaux conceptuels de la promenade urbaine qui s’étendra sur les 2,7 km de son territoire et pour laquelle la thématique du Jardin orientera l’ensemble des interventions.

CONTEXTE

À compter du printemps 2021, le parc des Compagnons-de-Saint-Laurent ainsi que la Place des Fleurs-de-Macadam, tous deux situés sur l’avenue du Mont-Royal subiront d’importants travaux de réfection qui s’étendront jusqu’à l’automne 2021. Ces interventions priveront les résidents, travailleurs et visiteurs des deux derniers espaces verts implantés sur le territoire de la SDC. Les aménagements de l’édition 2021 devront donc pallier ce manque et répondre au besoin criant d’espaces verts en recréant un contexte permettant d’apprécier les bienfaits de ceux-ci.

CALL FOR PROJECTS

TEMPORARY PLANNING ON MONT-ROYAL PEDESTRIAN AVENUE 2021

The pedestrianization of Avenue du Mont-Royal was initiated in 2020 in response to various constraints related to the health crisis. Throughout the summer, studies were carried out and found that not only was the pedestrianization successful, but it set a precedent for more commercial thoroughfares to follow suit.

Based on the observations obtained by experimenting with new planning concepts developed during this pivotal moment, the initiative will be renewed in summer 2021 on Mont-Royal Avenue. For this next edition, new temporary installations, artistic installations as well as greening initiatives will be deployed in a willful act testifying to the learning and know-how of the planning professionals who have developed and adapted their practice to this new reality.

The Société de développement commerciale de l’avenue du Mont-Royal and Odace Événements are launching a call for projects aimed at professionals from all design disciplines (multidisciplinary teams are encouraged) in order to develop the various conceptual boards of the urban promenade which will extend over a 2.7 km territory. The theme of the Garden will guide all planning interventions.

Background Information: Starting in the spring of 2021, the Parc des Compagnons-de-Saint-Laurent and Place des Fleurs-de-Macadam, both located on Avenue du Mont-Royal, will undergo major repairs that will extend until the fall of 2021. These interventions will deprive residents, workers and visitors of the rare green spaces established on the SDC’s territory.

The planning for the 2021 edition of the pedestrian avenue will therefore have to compensate for the lack of and respond to the need for green spaces by recreating a context allowing the benefits of these to be appreciated.

  Mandate: 2D illustration, graphic design, large format painting, photography

• The Moon Garden
  Mandate: planning, street furniture, lighting, greening, integration of the nearby construction fence (2D or 3D treatment)

• The Nourishing Garden
  Specific mandate for horticulturalists

• The Picnic in the Garden
  Mandate: Development, device to create shade and light, greening

• Le Far Est (Cactus Garden)
  Multidisciplinary mandate: planning, street furniture, installation and 2D treatment
